 DNA    Wikipedia

DNA can:          Solve "brick walls" in your research

Prove or disprove theories regarding ancestors

               Identify others who are related

Determine a location for further research

       Validate existing research

How did I do it:

You can use any DNA laboratory you wish,  Family Tree DNA was recommended to me. I ordered a new Comprehensive DNA test in 2012

I ordered a sample kit from Family Tree DNA  @

They posted it to me in Ireland

In the kit were 2 Q-tip like swabs with detachable brush heads. I followed the instructions and brushed the swabs on the inside of my cheeks for about 30 seconds,  the cells are easily and painlessly rubbed off onto the swabs.

The swabs heads are released into two plastic container filled with a liquid to ensure that there is no contamination.  A supplied Release form must be completed and put in the supplied envelope and posted back to Family Tree DNA in the USA.  You get the results in a few weeks.

There is a good video on how to use the sample kit on Youtube @

If you join the Carr DNA Project (or any other name project) you will get a special rate by being a member and your results are also sent to the project so that they can be compared with the other members.  There are many more test options and special offers to suit your pocket from time to time at Family Tree DNA. The Family finder test is very popular as it will test for both maternal and paternal ancestors.

Why not try it.
